Bald Eagle and Bird Watching at Ferry Bluff Eagle Council Overlook
The Ferry Bluff Eagle Council maintains this overlook, with a great view to Eagle Island. The overlook is located across from the Cenex gas station in Prairie du Sac. You can get out of your car and use the spotting scopes to see eagles perched on Eagle Island or soaring overhead. There is an information kiosk with more on local eagles.

"Great location for panoramic vistas of the Wisconsin river. Give yourself plenty of time to work up the steep trail. Closed during November to the end of March to protect roosting eagles. "

"We have visited here numerous times. The hike to the top of the bluff is a steep one but very worth the view you get from there. An always changing opportunity to see wildlife and people exploring the river below."

"Awesome view. Great hike, short and steep. Closed from November 15th through March to protect the eagles"

"The main trail is about a half-mile climb. If you take the rather overgrown path to the other outlook as well as the riverside path at the bottom, it's a 2.2 mile hike. I didn't find it to be worth the drive down the dirt road, though it is a nice view. There are signs saying the bluff is an eagle roost from Nov-March and you can't enter; not sure if that means the trail, or just the woods. You can drop your kayak here, but you won't want to if your take-out is Arena on the other side of the river."

"Truly a hidden gem. Scenic overview of the Wisconsin River. Once you get up to the main overlook make sure you follow the second trail around to the eastern bluff for even better views!"
