Founding Partners

The Sauk Prairie area serves as a gateway to fun on the lower Wisconsin Riverway, a segment of scenic waterways and roadways in southwest Wisconsin. From Lodi to Prairie du Chien, the Riverway is dotted with state natural areas, rolling hills, ancient prairies, quaint farmland, museums, galleries, performing art centers, foodie meccas, outlandish community events, and the most charming communities in the Midwest. Sauk Prairie is at the heart of it all – there’s no end to what you can do here. The Founding Partners know that. Sauk Prairie is a dynamic area with strong assets, including natural beauty, community collaboration, and a strong business community. Five of these strong businesses have stepped forward to support the growth of tourism, to be leaders in increasing our already exceptional quality of life. The five Founding Partners include: Bank of Prairie du Sac, Culver’s, River’s Edge Mall, Sauk Prairie Harley-Davidson, Inc., and Wollersheim Winery.

Bank of Prairie du Sac

Bank of Prairie du Sac has been committed to doing banking right since 1916. Over the years, the Bank of Prairie du Sac has grown to be one of the strongest financial institutions in Sauk Prairie. They strive to enhance, strengthen, and protect the financial well-being of those they touch one relationship at a time. The foundation of their success remains in their loyal customers, dedicated employees, and commitment to community. They are committed to staying a strong and secure independent community bank.

Culver’s

In 1984, the first Culver’s Frozen Custard and ButterBurger restaurant opened for business right here in Sauk City. Culver’s commitment to hometown values of working hard and welcoming guests with genuine hospitality and fresh food have helped the chain grow to nearly 500 restaurants in 19 states. Culver’s puts heart and soul into the food they make, and you can see it. This is a place connected to the farms that produce the dairy and grow the food that has made Culver’s a family favorite nationwide. This conscious connection is what makes this locally based business special, and Culver’s has made one more conscious connection by supporting the tourism efforts along the Sauk Prairie Riverway.

River’s Edge Mall

River’s Edge Mall, locally owned by the Lochner family since 1951, is a unique collection of retail shops. The Mall includes Ace Sauk Prairie, Cayuse Saddles, Tack & Western Wear, River’s Edge Floral, River’s Edge Crafts, Cards & Collectibles, and Wilderness Fish & Game. The Lochner family is one of the original proponents of a strong tourism plan along the riverway, pioneers in recognizing the pure potential of this majestic area. It is with the help of their initial concepts, conversations and vision that we launch this website and tourism initiative today.

Sauk Prairie Harley-Davidson

Virgil Schulenburg was raised on the family dairy farm in Spring Green, WI. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served two tours in Vietnam where he earned the nickname “Wolf”. In 1975, while stationed in Seattle, Washington he bought a 1941 Knucklehead.  After his tour of duty was up Virgil rode that motorcycle all the way back to Wisconsin. In 1979 at the age of 25 while working at the Harley dealership he was able to purchase what is now known as Sauk Prairie Harley-Davidson, Inc.  Today, the dealership is 72,376 square feet and one of the largest Harley-Davidson dealerships in the United States.  Virgil built the dealership on Customer Service and that continues today.  We are truly a full service Dealership offering not just Motorcycles, but many items that add to the lifestyle such as, parts and accessories, financing, clothing & collectibles and demo rides. We also have a complete Service Department and can teach you how to ride a bike through our Riders Edge new rider course.  Sauk Prairie Harley-Davidson, Inc. maintains a strong commitment to the community by sponsoring and participating in many local community and charitable events; the largest being the annual Freedom Ride to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) which brings over a thousand motorcycle enthusiasts to the area.

Wollersheim Winery

Nestled in the hillside overlooking the Wisconsin River, Wollersheim Winery is a national historic site comprised of limestone winery buildings and 27 acres of grapevines. Winemaker Philippe Coquard comes from a long winemaking heritage and, along with his wife Julie, combines history, tradition and innovation to continue the legacy of making distinctive regional wines. Recognized as being one of the leading wineries in the Midwest, Wollersheim crafts an array of award-winning regional and varietal wines, including the multiple award-winning Prairie Fumé. In 2012, the winery was named Winery of the Year from the San Diego International Wine Competition. The Sauk Prairie Riverway is a richer place because of businesses such as these, businesses that have made a commitment to make the Sauk Prairie Riverway a stronger, more recognizable, more accessible place for all. This website is one vehicle to accomplish that and was made possible by the support of these Founding Partners.
